The snow sports merit badge trip this year was a fun and challenging adventure. To earn this badge, Troop 5 scouts visited Gore Mountain in upstate New York where they demonstrated their skills in the snow. Certified Merit Badge Instructor Bill Haley led the scouts through the completion of most of the requirements. In order to get the badge, Scouts needed to show how to do specific maneuvers down and up the slope, what kind of precautions they need to take before going on a snow trip and how to seek help in case of an emergency. The trip, which included 2-day lift tickets to the mountain and cozy overnight accommodations at a cabin in camp Read, was challenging because the slopes were not easy and the Scouts had to demonstrate that they were at an intermediate or above ski level. During the day, Scouts traveled to the mountain while at night they worked together in the cabin to complete their worksheets. In the end, Scouts from different ranks were able to earn their badge.
