Welcome back from summer! Troop 5 was busy, with 20 scouts at summer camp earning 46 merit badges, and 9 of those scouts completing “New Frontier” activities towards Tenderfoot, Second, and First Class ranks.  We also hiked Gettysburg and earned 9 scouts (plus 2 Webelos) earned the Historic Trails award.

Now our first Troop meeting of the year is coming up!  The first meeting will be held Monday, 6:30pm, at the Reformed Church, and will be a special Court of Honor to recognize the achievements that the scouts earned over the summer.  Please check the “Calendar” tab of this web site for our full meeting calendar.

Scouts who will be attending Yawgoog this summer (August 9-16) should bring a check for $350.  The merit badge schedule, merit badge workbooks and pre-requisites, and the Eagle Merit Badge Schedule & Permission slip are all available on the Yawgoog web site (see the troop 5 links page for links to Yawgoog.)  Medical forms also need to be completed; These are on the troop 5 documents page.)

Scouts who plan to attend the rock climbing trip in the Gunks, April 18-19, should bring in a check for $25.

Scouts who want a blue felt temporary patch holder should bring in  $3 for each patch holder.

The Bowl-O-Ree will be held at White Plains Bowl on Sunday, March 8 at 2:00.  Scouts must raise at least $100 to bowl.  Contact Danny Romo or Clayton Cordsen, our Bowl-O-Ree coordinators, for more information.

The next Project Hammer will be March 21, from 8:30 to 3:00. See Assistant Scoutmaster John Henderson if you plan to participate.

For his Eagle project, Elliott Bartsch is leading the construction of  shelters and traps for feral cats.  Elliott is about to begin the construction phase, and has completed the first stage of cutting the wood.  He needs help sanding and painting before beginning assembly.

Any Troop members who are around over Winter Break should email or call Elliott, to schedule some times to work on this project.

For his Eagle project, Austin Engros is leading a book drive to collect books for a book fair to be held at PS 385X in the Bronx.  Austin is collecting children’s books for reading levels K through 4th grade and we will then prepare summaries of the books.  Scouts will match the books to the interest and reading levels of the students at PS 385X. The objective is to get the students more excited about reading and to find for them books that match their individual interests. Anyone with any used books for children in K through 4th grade who would like to make a donation should call Austin at either 914-961-3922 or 914-582-3328. We will finish collecting books on Saturday, March 7 and will conduct the book fair in the Bronx on Friday, March 20.
